Visiting the Saltisford Arm

Saltisford Arm is open to everyone — whether you arrive by narrowboat, car, bus, or on foot. The Arm is a peaceful haven just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Warwick, offering a glimpse of canal life past and present.

Visitors are welcome to stroll along the towpath, enjoy the gardens and orchards, or relax beside the water at one of our picnic tables or benches. The Visitor Centre stocks local gifts, canal heritage information, and refreshments including ice creams and hot drinks.

We also host community events throughout the year and have a range of trails and activities for families to explore. Dogs on leads are welcome across most of the site.

Please come and enjoy the tranquillity of this hidden corner of Warwick — you’ll always find a warm welcome waiting at the Saltisford Arm.

Around Warwick

Warwick is the county town of Warwickshire, England. The town lies upon the River Avon, 11 miles south of Coventry and just west of Leamington Spa . Kenilworth and Stratford-upon-Avon are only seven and nine miles away respectively. Both are accessible by public transport with bus services regularly from the bus station in Warwick Town Centre, just a 10-minute walk from the Saltisford Arm.

Warwick Castle

This 1100-year old fortress and historical site is an amazing day out of exploration in itself, but keep an out for one of the many live shows, events and bird of prey demonstrations they host throughout the year. Unless you're too busy finding your way around this castle's towers and dungeons of course!

Fusilier Museum

The Fusilier Museum brings the past to life and celebrates the stories of over 350 years of soldiers from its local area. Take a look at their exact replica of an actual World War One trench, and learn about the true stories of specific soldiers from the inception of the Regiment through to today.

Check out Visit Warwick for more information on what the city has to offer!

Around Warwick

Hill Close Gardens

Restored surviving Victorian hedged gardens once used by townsfolk as an escape from life in the cities of the day. Just a 5 minute walk from Warwick's Market Square.

Lord Leycester Hospital

One of the best preserved examples of medieval courtyard architecture, this hospital was founded in 1571, but was built and used by the guilds in Warwick as early as the 1300s!

Warwick Racecourse

Warwick Racecourse is home to a breadth of quality jump racing events from September to May every year!

Collegiate Church of St Mary's

Today it still functions as a place of worship and tourist attraction, but its original structure was likely built over 1000 years ago and its original Norman crypt remains to this day.

Wildlife

The Saltisford Arm is alive with wildlife throughout the year. Moorhens, coots, and ducks are regular sights along the water, while dragonflies and damselflies dart through the summer air. Look a little closer and you may spot kingfishers flashing past, herons patiently fishing, or bats skimming the water at dusk.

The surrounding gardens and orchards also attract butterflies, bees, and small mammals — creating a haven for nature right in the heart of Warwick.

Families can discover more through our Saltisford Wildlife QR Trail, a fun and educational activity designed especially for children. Each QR code unlocks a short audio story about the animal’s life along the canal. From curious swans to busy bees, the trail brings the Arm’s wildlife to life in an interactive way.

Pick up a leaflet or scan your first code near the Visitor Centre to begin your adventure — and see how many animals you can find! For further information about canal wildlife, get  some more info.
